Dark Elves

Those numbered among the Dark Elves were all the Elven-folk who never beheld the ennobling Light of the Trees of the Valar. These were the Avari- the Silvan Elves of the East and those of Mirkwood and Lothlorien -and the Eldar who never completed the Great Journey to the Undying Lands - the Nandor, the Laiquendi (Green-elves), the Falathrim and also the Sindar (Grey-elves) - who inhabited Beleriand until the end of the First Age of Sun, when all the Elf-realms of that place were lost in the sea.
The Dark Elves, or "Moriquendi" in the Elven tongue, were counted a lesser people than the High Elves of Eldamar, who were the Vanyar, Noldor and Teleri. Yet by the reckoning of Men these Dark Elves were magical and brilliant beings. For they were immune to pestilence and aged not with the passage of time. They were wiser, stronger and fairer than Men and their eyes always shone with the light of the Stars. In the first years of the Sun, it was these Elves who taught all Men speech and many others arts and skills, that they might live in Middle-earth and raise themselves above the station of beasts.
The Nandor and the Laiquendi both were said to have learned powers of woodlore greater than any other living creatures. The Falathrim were the first shipbuilders of Middle-earth and the finest mariners. The Sindar, who were ruled by a High Eldar King and a Maiar queen, built the fairest kingdom on Middle-earth and performed noble deeds counted great even by the measure of the High Elves.
In the Second Age of Sun, after the sinking of Beleriand new Elf-realms were created by the High Elves of Middle-earth and many Silvan Elves came to them out of the East and the North. Of these new realms, those of Lindon, Rivendell, Mirkwood and Lothlorien survived until the Forth Age. But as the "Red Book of Westmarch" tells, the High Elves in the Forth Age took the white Elven-ships to the Undying Lands. And though Dark Elves long remained in Middle-earth, all their realms faded and they became a wandering folk of ever diminishing power.

Deep Elves

Of all the Elves the most famous in the songs of Men are the Noldor, who are called Deep Elves because of their great knowledge of the crafts taught to them in the Undying Lands by Aule, the Smith of the Valar and Maker of Mountains.
In Eldarmar, these Elves greatly loved to build with stones and the delved deep into the mountains for it. They were the first to find the bright Earth-gems and they were first to devise the Elf-gems that were brighter still.
The Deep Elves were well known to Men, for alone of the Calaquendi they returned to Middle-earth after the coming of Men and performed great deeds, for both good and evil. These Elves wrought the Great Jewels - the Silmarils - and also made the Rings of Power. The greatest wars that ever were known to Men were fought over these works.

East Elves

At the time of the Rekindling of the Stars, all Elves lived in the East of Middle-earth, under the shadow of the Orocarni, the Mountains of the East, beside the shore of the Great Inland Sea of Helcar. But in the time of the Lord of Forests, the huntsmen Orome of the Valarian race, came to the Elves, and brought the summons to leave that land of starlight and crystal water and come to a land beyond many mountains and across the great sea which promised to be of eternal light and great joy.

Many heeded his call and traveled to the West and were variously called West Elves, the People of the Great Journey and Eldar. Those who remained were named East Elves or the Avari, the “unwilling” who feared the Great Journey. Later still, they were called the Silvan Elves or Wood Elves. They loved starlight and the sounds of the waters of Cuivienen and, though many evil things might lurk in the shadows of the forest, they cared greatly for the Kelvar and Olvar of the lands and did not wish to leave them for a brilliant vision.

So they remained and dwindled, or so it seemed to the eyes of Men who came later, for they seldom saw these Elves, and what power they had remained closely linked to the power of growing things. They hid themselves, for as long as the power of Melkor in the East remained unchecked the only chance for these people lay in living secretly on the land.

Grey Elves

Of all the Umanyar, the Elves of the Journey who never saw the Light of the Trees, the mightiest were the Sindar, "Grey-elves". These people were ruled by one who had seen the Light and they were protected by one who was handmaid to the Powers that made the Trees. The king of the Grey-elves was Elwe Singollo, which in the tongue of the Grey-elves was Elu Thingol, King Greymantle. Thingol was tallest of all Elves and his hair was silver. His queen was Melian the Maia, and Ages before the coming of the Sun these two made a kingdom in the Wood of Doriath, and therein built a great city named Menegroth. So long as Melian was queen and Thingol lived, the Sindar were a prosperous and happy people. But when Thingol was drawn into the War of the Jewels and lost his life and his queen went away, the enchantment was broken, as were the people.

High Elves

Of all the Elves, the mightiest were those of the Eldar who first reached the shores of Aman, the Undying Lands, in the days of the Trees of the Valar. These were called the High Elves, and they were those Elves who arrived in that place names "Elvenhome" and were granted great wisdom and many skills by the Valar and Maiar. In large part they dwell there still, though the Trees have been destroyed and the Undying Lands have been taken from the Cirlces of the World and cannot now be reached by any device

Elven Magic/Magical languages

Chadris   Wyietlan - Manchas - Fenchal - Balf

This character set is most common and simplest magical language used by a human wizards. Wyietlan is its weakest and simplest form. All low level spells are written with wyietlan.

Manchas is writing language for middle level spells. In proportion manchas is equally difficult with masakan language and has quite much impressions from the masakan.

Fenchal is officially the last form of Chadris. All high level spells are written by fenchal. Fenchal is as difficult as the blielaw the magical language of elves.

Balf is "extra" part of chadris. Learning it takes decades, because it is extremely detailed and difficult to understand. Balf has so many possibilities that one intual could ever learn it fully. Base characters of balf come from lower versions of chadris and for that reason also those versions must be very well learned. Balf is the highest form of chadris and it must be personally mould to fit for own purposes. Wizards can not understand balf written by other wizards unless they are very familiar with each other, like married-couple, identical twins or soul mates. It is possible to write all kind of spells quickly in written and readable form with balf. Arch-wizard gains no benefit from spellbook of another wizard if it is written with balf.

Masakan

Masakan is magical language of Jonai people. This language bases purely on concepts and abstractions. One character represents one word and the way to pronounce that word. Runes and symbols are important part of masakan. It is much easier to express oneself with this language than is with other languages, because words of masakan draw mental images into the minds of listeners.

With this language it is easier to write spells based on mind, time and space. The power of this language is one of the weakest, excluding spells that base on mind, time and space. Most powerful enchanters, illusionists and dimensionalists use this language, because this is the easiest way to handle spells mentioned earlier.

Barzaek

This is language of controlling, summoning, dimensions and spirits. All summoners must know this language if they wish to summon and control spirits. Barzaek bases on true names and searching of true names of creatures as well as concealing and blurring those names. With this language it should be possible to find own true name also. To be able to control demons, spellcaster must conceal his own true name so that the demon won't be able to control the caster. Of course own true name must be found first before it can be concealed. Last mistake of numerous wizards is that they try to control demon without first knowing their own true name.

If someone accidentally pronounces his true name, experienced barzaek user can hear a little personal nuance in the tone. After that spellcaster has very good opportunity to control his opponent, either by letting the victim to be aware of that or not.

For example: If experienced wizard succeeds in summoning demon into prime material plane. Demon acts like humble and resigned. It flatters the wizard and tries to cheat him to speak as much as possible. Trying to get him accidentally pronouncing his true name. Lets say the wizards true name is "Urki" and he accidentally says: "Of course I know your kind fiend!". That probably is enough for a demon and it hears the true name of the wizard. If the demon is powerful it can either move straight into the wizard or just command: "Urki die!" And after that wizard's heart might stop and he dies. If the demon is not so powerful, it can lead wizard to do its bidding: "I'm your kidnapped, master, is your first order to take us into lower planes where I have many subordinates which now are also your subordinates?" In the beginning of the sentence the demon calls the wizard by his true name and after that gives him a suggestion he can't resist. And so they go at lower planes and never return.

(In this context spirits are creatures of both prime material plane and other planes and dimensions and even creatures of negative material plane (undead.))

Blielaw

Elves were first of the young races, who learned secrets of magic from dragons. Therefore they were also first who developed a magical language. Blielaw is more like an art and needs a lot of studying before it can be understood. Young elven wizards don't necessarily know what some character means but by copying it carefully they get it working weakly. These copied runes lack the "soul" but the more young wizard learns, the stronger the soul of his characters become and also the power of his spells. Because all blielaw-runes contain at least a little magical power, also laymen are able to use elven scrolls and items, if they are able to read common elven writings. Common elven writing bases on blielaw.

Because most elves can read and write, also most of them can use lesser spells. These lesser spells are important part of the folklore of elves. Lesser spells are such as food blessing, birth-spells, least wound healing, protections from evil, rain callings, steel founding spells, fire igniting, etc. This kind of lesser magic appears in everyday life of elves. Though real wizards are rare among elves.

Elven magic is rarely spread among other people. Elves are very accurate in this matter. They rather charm their bows than arrows, so, that in combat elven magic won't get in wrong hands. Elves have their own organization, which searches magic and magical items belonging to elves. These travelers are called "Seekers", "Retrievers" or "Magic hunters". When they find magic belonging elves, they first try to buy it and only after that consider and use other means. When Seekers have gotten the item on their possession, they sell it for closest elven settlement, unless they know items true owner. For Seekers their task is holy.

In addition to their main job, Seekers usually trade also with art-objects and common items.

Ha'(h)tdhuna

This is powerful magical language disappeared thousands of years ago. Some nowadays unknown race stole this language from dragons. Stories and legends describe Hathuna to be some kind of pre-arcanic language of will. Legends tell that this language was never written on paper, but was imagined or thought on it. It shined on paper as thousands of overlapping shapes. The details of hathuna were only limited by the imagination of writer. One historical tome insists that hathuna-magic has no limits. It says that it is possible to do anything with it and sufficient imagination and faith.

Probably hathuna were language of priests.

Arcana

The name of this language tells everything. Arcana-language is as its name indicates, ancient. This language is not meant for recording spells, but was developed for examining arcana-magic. This is the only language by which it is even little easier to understand arcana-magic.

Oarturden   (oart = earth, urd = word, en = refers to creation)

This is the language of creation. This is a language of gods. Even phoenix and dragon can't understand this language. This is the biggest difference between mortals and gods.

RE:Elves
(Date Posted:12/29/2008 00:06 AM)

Family, Society and Culture. The elves are a highly civilized race, but in general elves of every single tribe live their own life far off from all other forms of civilization in their forest (with some very few exceptions). There are no forms of elected ot inherited governing among the elves, leaders are usually not assigned as such but simply respected from the tribe's people according to their nature-given authority. As intuition, feelings and sensitivity are very important elven virtues elven rulers are very often females. There is practically no jealousy or envy among the elves. Everything is shared and in every different field of artisanry each authority is accepted.

There are several different kinds of elves, which can be split up further into various tribes:
The Wood Elves

WOODELVES, THE
They are the most common of elvenkind. They usually wear greens and greys to blend with their surroundings. Sandy hair and light blue, green or grey eyes complement their rustic demeanour. They are adept to moving silently and their presence in in the woods goes unnoticed among the shadows of swaying branches.

The Ice Elves

ICE ELVES, THE
Elvenkind living in the regions of Cyhalloi. Accustomed to fierce conditions Ice Elves have very cold blood, which is also the reason why they have very white skin. This kind of elves is well known for their gigantic ice buildings they often errect in the midst of nowhere.

LIGHT ELVES, THE
The Light Elves are the most lordly of all elves and are seldom encountered in visible form. They are the purest kind of elves, breathing the spirit the High Goddess.

The Shadow Elves

SHADOW ELVES, THE
A rare elven kind, the Shadow Elves are the opposite of the Light Elves, capturing the very essence of Coór. They are found mostly in the Water Marshes of Northern Sarvonia; the area that once was the mythical elven kingdom of Fá'áv'cál'âr. These elves, while close to the Father of Shadows, as they call him, are not inherently evil. Most of the time, they lean towards neutrality. Shadow Elves are found outside of the Marshes only in the most atypical of circumstances. Also, like Light Elves, it is unusual to find them in corporeal form. When appearing within a physical body, Shadow Elves have ebony colored skin and snow white hair.

The Dark Elves

DARK ELVES, THE
Possibly the most dangerous of elven kind, these elves follow the path led by the shadow of Coór. It must be emphasized that dark elves cannot be counted as elves who offend against elven principles as a whole. While they are an offshoot of the Shadow Elves, it must be understood that their principles are intrinsically different. While in fact they are as nature-loving as all other kinds of elves, Dark Elves favour the dark side of nature, which is also an legimate way to honor the deeds of Avá the Beautiful - by destroying it. Dark Elves acquire a pale skin tone from a lifetime of living in the darkness of their shadowy forest homes, whitening with age. Conversely, their hair and eyes become darker and darker until they reach a jet black color in the oldest of Dark Elves. Return to the top

Origin. According to the Cárpa'dosían myth, elves were the Firstborn Children of the High Goddess. After Avá had created the Gods at the Beginning of Time, She interfered in Her Dream once again, thus dreaming to give Her Spirit and the freedom within Her Spirit, to the accomplishment of the Gods, so that the creatures would be able to view the world with their own thoughts, and to become as delighted of the beauty of Aér'ai'chán like Avá Herself. Thus the Rain of Life fell out of the Thought of Avá, down on Aér'ai'chán and it fell on the elements, and from the Elements there emerged the inspired creatures. And whereas the element of Earth produced the dwarves, Water the humans and fire the orcs. The very first  before all others were the elves, who emerged from the element of Wind, and the very first being and progenitor of all elves to follow was Aorn ("he, who is with light").

Elves were a very mysterious race from the beginning of time on, as they are said to be closest to the Thought of Avá Herself. Even the apparitions of this first race couldn't be always discerned from the blowing of the Wind itself, and therefore the purest form of elvenkind, the Light Elves, weren't believed to exist in neither time nor space. The Light Elven race is rarely seen and if so, elves only appear on certain times and on special places in the untouched nature. During the course of time elves moved to other places in the world and in many tribes their spiritual shape was lost completely and elves changed to beings consisting of blood and flesh. Even if the elven spirit is not visually apparent anymore in many tribes, the color of their skin, their hair and their eyes, often still represent the surrounding nature to a very obvious degree.
